Sketch Redux part 2

Here is the sketch I did for a cover awhile back

and here are the comments made by the art director

I like the perspective, and how Ivy looks. I do think she could be a bit more buff though, since she is a fighter. I'll also make sure that wisp of hair we're seeing off to the right is a braid. I LOVE how we get to see the action both above and below the water line. I'm not getting much of a sense of danger though. The water looks too shallow and calm. The text describes the water as only waist deep, which I think is part of the problem; it's too shallow to invoke a risk of drowning. I'd like to see the water deeper and more turbulent, but that conflicts with the written text. What do you think? I think I'd rather see Ivy struggling more against the grate, with the hand looming down at her, rather than Ivy reaching towards it. *We* know that it is her comrade reaching to help her, but we don't need to give that away on the cover. Let's let the reader think that hand is another element of danger until they actually come to this scene in the book. Also, Suzzura's hand needs to look less human and more half-orc.

Story telling wise I thought this was a great idea. In this case a revised sketch wasn't necessary, I just implemented the changes in the final

The auctions have been set up.

This will give the West Coasters a chance to get home before the bidding ends on June 23rd.
They will then end alphabetically every 3 minutes.
This gives people a chance to bid on new items if they missed the previous.

Sketch Redux part 1

Here is a recent illustration I did for Magic: The Gathering
My AD requested I redo my initial sketch for the following story related reasons
"Okay, we’re losing the merfolk-in-training gag. He just looks like hes being attacked and or injured. That’s not the idea. He’s like a runner who trains with weighhts on his legs, then they come off and he’s ready to kick ass.
Make sense?"


This made a lot of sense to me so I went with the weight lifting metaphor, and came up with this

In your journeys through life it isn't often you feel honored to give something or do something for free. You may feel a sense of fulfillment or charity, but certainly not honor. It is with this in mind that I thank Irene Gallo and Dan Dos Santos for inviting me to participate in this years Microvisions auction, I am immensely honored.

Jimmy was a visitor in our home for a week or so. Our dog found a young crow, not quite able to fly, so we took him into our home for awhile. Luckily we had an empty aviary that he could call home until he got a little stronger. These are a few pictures we snapped before releasing him, and no I don't usually dress like this, it was for reference for my wifes paintings.

I plan on making this a regular feature. I will call out an art show I plan to see or would like to see, but can't. I am proud to start it off with a show of my very own wife's work.

Mr. Gene Colan and his wife could use your help

Gene Colan was one of the premier artists for Marvel back in the seventies working on books such as Daredevil, Avengers, Captain America, and Doctor Strange. However, his most lasting impact on comics(at least for me) was his 70 issue run on Tomb of Dracula and his co-creation of Blade with Marv Wolfman. Not to mention he was a student of Frank Reilly
